New Maxwell Technologies 56v UPS Ultracapacitor Modules offer cost effective, reliable solution for UPS backup applications

Young Electronics Group introduce the new Maxwell Technologies’ UPS energy storage modules which provide maintenance-free operation for bridge power and power quality applications. With a maintenance free operating life of up to 14 years and no sophisticated monitoring required, the 56V rated module has the lowest total cost of ownership of any UPS energy storage for systems 20kW and larger (even multi-MW). The module comes in standard rack compatible size of 665 x 176 x 173mm for easy integration and can be used as a replacement for batteries or in conjunction with permanent backup solutions.

Maxwell Technologies’ 56V ultracapacitor module provides power during dips and sags in the main power source. In longer term outages, the modules provide transition/bridge power to a longer term back up source such as a motor-generator or fuel cell. For industrial applications, ultracapacitor modules provide power for controlled shutdown of process equipment. An optional over-voltage alarm is available if required.

Ultracapacitor technology offers advantages over lead acid or gel batteries. In addition to long service lifetime they are maintenance free, have a predictable wear out, and offer a fast recharge and fast system recovery time compared to traditional batteries. In addition, the charge rate does not affect the operational lifetime of Ultracapacitors and they can be used immediately upon installation (no battery forming required), this results in higher system availability.
